Description

My replica Colt .38 Model 1851, nicknamed "Belle"

I spent a few days modifying her just perfectly to have a good balance of æsthetics and functionality. I acquired different bits of pieces of things and made sure they were all of the right patine and coloration as the gun.

The replica came as it looks with the aged-crass patina look, the stylization already on it.

On the sides I attached two findings with a mainspring over them as a stylized canon-fire look. Along the underside of the barrel I attached an aged-brass chain with two aged brass rivets on either end as an æsthetic addition.

Over the drum on one side is an old clock part that I quick-aged in salt water and bent to fit the shape of the drum.

Along the top are two washers on either end over what were ring-bases I flattened out. In the middle is what was a brass case-top for second hands from a watch (from back in the day when a clockmaker would actually buy the hands in brass cases) with an antique brass piece that I have NO idea what it was, but my mother had. The top parts work perfectly as iron sights, far better than the one sight at the end of the barrel.

I named her Belle after Myra Maybelle Shirley Reed Starr (February 5, 1848 – February 3, 1889), better known as Belle Starr, was a notorious American outlaw.
